Trius Red - 25 Years

It’s hard for us to believe that it’s been 25 years since Trius Red burst onto the international wine scene when it became the first-ever Canadian vintage to be recognized as the Best Red Wine in the World. Where does the time go? A quarter century later, Trius Red continues to hold its own as one of the most iconic wines of the north.



2014 Trius Red

APPELLATION: VQA Niagara Peninsula
STYLE: Full-bodied & firm
  • 55% Cabernet Franc
  • 25% Merlot
  • 20% Cabernet Sauvignon


FLAVOUR PROFILE: Deep garnet with a wonderful bouquet of black currant, ripe blackberry, blueberry, sweet smoke, spice box and a hint of mocha. The dominating Cabernet Franc provides rich flavours of ripe black currant, blackberry and dark plum, while notes of blueberry, baking spice and vanilla bean accent these flavours and linger beautifully on the finish.

WINEMAKING TECHNIQUE: These grapes were harvested from our estate-owned Carlton and Clark Farm Vineyards and from our long-standing growers in the Niagara Peninsula. The individual lots received 14 to 25 days of skin contact during fermentation. Each varietal was barrel-aged separately in 60% French and 40% American oak (25% new oak) for six months, then blended together and aged in the same barrels again, as the final assemblage, for a further six months before being bottled.

BEST SERVED: At a cool room temperature of 18ºC (64ºF) in large-bowled red wine glasses. Decanting is recommended if opening through 2016. Enjoy through 2024.
BEST PAIRED WITH: Grilled foods such as pepper steaks, beef tenderloin, lamb chops, wild game meats with aged balsamic reductions, porterhouse steak, red peppers, eggplant and mushroom. Once allowed to age and soften beyond 2017, enjoy with winter stews, beef bourguignon, Osso Buco and two to four-year-old Canadian Cheddar.
