Start off the evening with your dining companions (and soon-to-be adversaries) in our winery boutique with a guided tasting led by one of our resident wine experts. Let us take you through the paces of our wine portfolio that will prepare you for the competition with some tasting tips and tricks. Next, settle in for a 4-course seasonally-inspired menu from Chef Frank Dodd, complete with secret wine pairings disguised in opaque black stemware. With the assistance of the Trius team, use your newly acquired skills to guess the wine paired with each course. Red or white? Chardonnay or Riesling? Merlot or Cabernet Franc? Put your nose and palate to the test!

To the victor go the spoils. Guess the most wines correctly and we will reward your excellent senses with a bottle of award-winning Trius Brut to take home.

Much like wine, classic radio shows have a smooth and timeless allure. Join us at Trius Winery as we blend the classics in our new Trius Radio Noir Series.

You’ll begin your evening by sipping on a glass of our favourite “Noir” wines and snacks from Chef Frank Dodd as you settle into your seat and become a member of a live audience. The production ensemble (Shaw Festival alumni and friends) takes you back to the golden age of radio, performing stories of mystery, romance, and suspense, complete with live sound effects and music.

Some of the scariest and most memorable productions in history were created in classic radio thanks to sound effects and the power of suggestion. Now you too can experience “theatre of the mind” and enjoy its magic.

During the performance there will be a small intermission with wine and snacks available for purchase from our premium concession stand.

Dates & shows include:

Friday, February 10, 2017: Brief Encounter

Based on the 1936 play Still Life by Noel Coward.

This award-winning romantic drama tells the story of an encounter between a man and a woman in a train station, just outside of London. The woman, Laura, is a very British, suburban, married woman with children, whose conventional life becomes increasingly challenging. This is a story of love, loyalty and the complications of life, and was one of the most popular films, and radio plays, of its day.

Friday, March 10, 2017: Adventures of the Thin Man: The Case of the Goofy Groom

Background:   Nick and Nora Charles were the original detective couple in America, made famous by their portrayal by Dick Powell and Myrna Loy, and created by writer Dashiell Hammett.

Hammett's retired private eye, Nick Charles, is always ready for a challenge, alongside his rich and beautiful (and nowhere near as ditzy as you'd think) wife, Nora. They proved to be just what people wanted back in the1940s. They established a formula that film, television, and fiction writers are still trying to duplicate today, filled with dry wit, some whispers of sex and drinking, and a plausible mystery. Original Broadcast Date: March 10, 1946

Space is limited, so please reserve early.
