A Canadian Wine Industry
Game Changer

It’s been over three decades since Trius Red, a Bordeaux blend-inspired wine produced by Hillebrand Winery, burst onto the international wine scene when it became the first-ever Canadian vintage to be recognized as the Best Red Wine in the World in 1991. In addition to positioning Trius Red as the little big red that could, the win marked an important step for the Canadian wine industry, sending a signal that our country’s wine could stand on their own against old world wines.

Trius Red continues to be recognized as one of Canada’s most iconic wines, but this shining star has been joined by many more buzzed about companions in the Trius portfolio.

Trius Takes The Lead

Trius Takes The Lead

While Trius Red was originally the only Trius wine in the Hillebrand Winery portfolio, over time our portfolio grew to include sparkling wines and other offerings including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. As more and more Canadian wine lovers discovered Trius and wanted to visit the winery where the wines were being produced, it was a logical next step to align the Hillebrand Winery property with its most beloved brand. In 2012, Trius Winery was born.

Ask Trius Winemaker, Emma Garner, about the winery’s history and she's quick to point out that what’s in the bottle has and will always be more important than the name that is on the label, “The heart and soul of all of our wines comes from the one-of-a-kind vineyards where we grow our grapes. It’s factors like the sun-soaked shale that our vines sink their roots into and convection currents from Lake Ontario that cool down hot summer nights, those are things that have the greatest impact on our wines. Celebrating that connection between the land and our wines is at the heart of everything in creating iconic wines for Canadians to enjoy.”
